Training Programs for Dogs

"Man (or woman) is a dog's best friend."

This is how we think the quote should read. There is nothing quite comparable to the feeling of connection one experiences when they break through the species language barrier and begin to truly communicate with their dog. Establishing this level of communication is paramount to beginning any training program, and is a skill you will spend much time fostering during any dog training program with College for Pets.

Agility

At White Mountain College for Pets we go beyond the basic obstacle to obstacle instruction by teaching you techniques to effectively motivate your dog. We work from the premise that a motivated dog will perform with a level of joy and enthusiasm that's unmatched by a traditionally trained dog. You will also receive advice on constructing each obstacle with common items you have around the yard.
No interest in competition? Our unique training approach is just as effective as a means of exercise as it is a solution for those with aspirations of competition.

Obstacles:

  • A-Frame
  • Teeter
  • Dog-Walk
  • Jumps: Panel, Broad and Tire
  • Pause Table
  • Open Tunnel (Chute)
  • Collapsed Tunnel
  • Weave Poles

Tricks

With the popularity of Animal Planet's "Pet Star" competition, the limitless possibilities of training your dog to perform tricks has become well known. Perhaps you've thought , "I could never teach my dog to do that." We're here to tell you, " YES YOU CAN!"

Trick training is a fun and exciting way to bond with your dog. Restricted only by the time and energy you're willing to spend, there's almost nothing you can't teach your dog to do. Let us show you the secrets of trick training...
Here's a just sampling of the tricks we've taught to clients:

  • Pray
  • Find it
  • Get a soda from the fridge
  • Roll over
  • Sit pretty
  • Walk on two legs
  • Sing
  • Retrieve mail from the mailbox
  • Cover your eyes
  • Clean up yard debris/bring in firewood

Scent Work

Scientists estimate that a dog's nose is from 100 to 10 million times more sensitive than a human's. Harnessing this amazing natural feature of the dog, humans have trained dogs to sniff out bombs, drugs and even diseases. Search and rescue groups use dogs to locate missing children and adults. As a pet owner you can teach your dog to perform the same "working" functions described above as well as:

  • Locate your car keys
  • Find the TV remote
  • Find a child or elderly relative if they have wandered away
  • Play hide-n-seek
  • Alert you to illegal substances in your home

As long as your dog has a nose, he can be trained to track!
