What does it mean to “board and train” your dog?

What Does ?Board and Train? Mean?

Boarding kennels provide a place for dogs to stay when owners are traveling or otherwise engaged. When you board your dog with us, whether for a week or a month, we provide focused, daily training. This is a great way to reiterate prior training or introduce new tricks and concepts.

How Can You Prepare your Dog For This?

If your dog isn?t used to being away from you, there are several steps you can take to ensure the transition goes as smoothly as possible.

1. Bring items from home.

The familiarity of a favorite toy, blanket, or stuffed animal can help calm your dog when left in an unfamiliar place.

1. Stick to a familiar diet.

Likewise, your dog might not eat if the food is foreign to them. Bring the food they eat at home; this way, they will not suffer illness or indigestion while apart from you.

1. Stay calm during drop-off.

Chances are, your dog?s reaction will be a reflection of yours. Stay calm and happy when saying goodbye to your friend. Let them know this is not a situation that calls for panic!

Other Helpful Things to Know

Before boarding your dog with a kennel, it is important that you do the following two things:

• Ensure that all vaccinations are up to date.

Most kennels require up-to-date shots to prevent the spread of doggie germs. Check with your veterinarian no later than 2 weeks before the scheduled boarding. Be sure to bring all records and forms with you.

• Fill out all paperwork prior to arriving at the kennel.

This includes your personal contact information, your veterinarian?s name and phone number, and other things the kennel might need in case of an emergency.
